This is mainly an exaggeration of the normal protective reflexes of the upper airway. This exaggeration is usually caused by a recent infection like a cough or a cold.

People who have a regular exercise practice physical , spiritual or breath related will find themselves impatient to restart their practice. They'll find that the infection has come and gone, but they're still unable to get back to doing what they love.

Here's how you can get through that annoying period.

1. Be patient. This too shall pass.

2. Do the lymphatic clearance exercises

3. Avoid breathing through an open mouth.

4. Warm saline gargles daily

5. Steam inhalation thrice a day

6. Humming or chanting aum, the vibrations seem to help with clearing the sinuses

7. Avoid irritant foods

8. Avoid dehyration

9. Get enough protein and salt

10. Oil pulling

11. Avoid stressing your body out in the recovery period, it'll only prolong the time taken to heal

12. Resist the urge to cough to clear your throat, through the rest of the day

13. Consider using medication for symptomatic relief

14. See a doctor if it's lasted longer than 3 weeks
